Welcome

Hertford Oral History Group was founded in 1990 with the intention of preserving the memories of Hertford residents, with the support of Hertford Museum, Hertford Civic Society and Hertford & Ware Local History Society. Since then over 400 people have been recorded and a proportion of them transcribed by our volunteers providing a priceless record of Hertford’s past in the words and voices of those who experienced it.

The archive is stored at Hertford Museum and used for exhibitions, publications and research. For the first time, transcripts of many of our recordings are available online. More will be added as they become available. You can search by name or use a search term, e.g. Workhouse.

Requests for further information on the recordings should be made directly to the museum.
